Electronic Course
Reserve (ECR): Information for Instructors
Selected print materials such as articles,
chapters, quizzes, and notes can be made available to
students in PDF format via HuskyCT for 24/7 access.
Students must be enrolled in participating courses. Note: Babbidge Library
staff handle ECR.
How to Place Materials in ECR
Allow at least three weeks of lead time during the first
few weeks of the semester.
- Obtain your NetID and password. (You
probably already have it.)
- Request a HuskyCT course.
- Fill out the Reserve Request form with complete citations
for each article or chapter you are requesting. Print out the receipt
(you will need it later). Observe guidelines
and restrictions
below.
- Materials to be scanned may be delivered to the
Babbidge Library in one of the following ways:
a. Drop materials off at the iDesk on the
Plaza level of the Babbidge Library. Include a copy of the receipt
returned when you submitted the Reserve Request form. Here
are Babbidge
Library hours.
b. Email or Snail Mail materials to Babbidge
Library Reserve staff along with a copy of the
receipt returned when you submitted the Reserve
Request form.
Guidelines and Restrictions
- Please remember, the initial quality of the paper
image is the largest determinant in the quality of the
final product! If you supply us with the material, please
submit the best copy or original in your possession.
- Follow these guidelines to comply with
copyright policy on scanned
copies:
- Journals - one article per journal
issue or 15% of the issue, whichever is greater.
- If you provide copies from the print journal, and the
copyright symbol is not on the first page of the article,
be sure to include the page with the publisher
information from the front of the issue.
- Printouts of articles from UConn Library owned
databases cannot be used. Most of the time we can link
directly to the article so be sure to include the
complete citation (and the URL if you have it...put it in
the "Special info/publisher" field) on the Reserve
Request form.
- Books - one chapter or 15% of the
book, whichever is greater.
- If you provide copies from the book be sure to
include the title page and the page with the copyyright
symbol.
- Click here for more in depth copyright
information.
Materials that exceed these suggestions will be reviewed by
library staff, as time and processing procedures permit,
for inclusion in course reserve in light of the four
factors of fair use to limit the University's
liability for possible copyright infringement.
- Course anthologies cannot be placed in eReserve due to
copyright restrictions.
- Personal copies must be owned in their original
format, i.e., you own a copy of book or are a subscriber
to the journal. Possession of a photocopy does not
constitute ownership in the original format.
- Student papers placed on eReserve must be accompanied
by a signed release form.
- Selections obtained through InterLibrary Loan,
borrowed, or photocopied by you from another Library's
holdings or from a colleague require permission from the
publisher and payment of copyright fees.
- The Library will seek permission and pay reasonable
fees.
- Material will be scanned and placed in HuskyCT while
awaiting permission.
- Should permission be denied we will notify you and
the material will be removed from HuskyCT.
