UConn General Education Information Literacy Requirement
The University’s new General Education Guidelines go into effect Fall 2005. These guidelines stipulate that information literacy exit expectations are to be established for each undergraduate major by the department responsible for the major, with the assistance of the department’s library liaison.
The General Education Oversight Committee’s Subcommittee on Information Literacy prepared three documents to assist departments as they establish information literacy expectations. (The third link below is courtesy of the UConn Libraries.)

Literacy Fact Sheet on the ACRL Standards for Higher
Education
Helps faculty distinguish between basic and advanced information literacy competencies. The Basic Level expectations are those to be acquired through the Freshman English and FYE programs. The Advanced Level competencies are those to be acquired through the curriculum of the student’s major field of study.

Information Literacy Competency Instruction Sheet
(for programs offering a major)
Suggests a strategy for departments to follow in establishing Advanced Level information literacy competencies. Includes a link to the full ACRL guidelines.
