LexisNexis Search Tips:

If you use the Guided Search, you will need to select search categories (e.g., General News or Arts & Sports). Try several different categories, as each retrieves different materials.

In the Guided Search you need to type "and" (without quotes) between each search term (e.g., connecticut and repertory and theatre). Experiment.

To find New York Times theater articles or reviews, go to General News, type "new york times" (without quotes) in the Publication Title box, and type "theater" or "theater arts" in the Search For box, with Headline as the search type ("search in"). Select a date range.

There are some differences between LexisNexis Academic Universe (one of UConn's subscription resources) and the free New York Times website (http://www.nytimes.com). (These comments are based on a few quick and dirty test searches, and may have been affected by outside factors. Please do your own comparisons and judge for yourself.) LexisNexis (LN) and other similar subscription resources search several newspapers at once and may have better date coverage (copyright issues not withstanding). This librarian had many more hits in LN. Search speed may vary. This librarian found LN to be faster. Either source seems fine for recent articles. However, check sites carefully for retrospective coverage. For example, the NYT web site says that "articles from the past 7 days are free, as are book and movie reviews." If you need older reviews (and often you will), this web site may not meet your needs. This librarian did not pull up a 1999 test article in NYT web, even using several strategies. It was listed in LN.
