Wireless Network

Location

The wireless network is available in all public areas of the Music & Dramatic Arts Library, including tables and carrels on all three floors, and the seminar room. It is also available in the lobby and in most public spaces in the Fine Arts complex.

Setup

  • UConn students, faculty, and staff may use their NetIDs to connect to the wireless network.
  • UConn guests must use Guest Registration to connect wireless devices to UConn's wireless network.
  • Any computer or handheld device connecting to the network will need an 802.11 b/g wireless network adapter configured to locate and connect to UCONN-PUBLIC.
  • For more information about general settings, equipment, security, and connecting, see http://wireless.uconn.edu/.

Usage Guidelines

  • Use the wireless service responsibly and ethically. Find university and state policies at http://itpolicy.uconn.edu.
  • Do not download large files over the wireless network.
  • Do not stream audio / video (over 56 Kbps) over the wireless network. This includes Digital Audio Reserve (56–128 Kbps) and Naxos Music Library (64Kbps). Please use public datajacks instead.
  • The wireless network allows for mobility, but it does not replace the wired connections found in almost every University building across the campus.

Public Datajacks

Datajacks for standard Ethernet are available at tables and carrels on all three floors of the Music & Dramatic Arts Library. Active jacks (that work) are marked with a green dot. Voice jacks (for dial up) are not active (“lit”). Users connecting to public jacks need an Ethernet card and standard Ethernet cable.

Help

For assistance connecting to the network, computer configuration questions, or other questions and problems, see http://wireless.uconn.edu/, or contact the IT Services Desk, Babbidge Library, Level 1 (860.486.5949). Music & Dramatic Arts Library desk attendants are not trained to assist at this time.

Printing

Computers connected to the wireless network or using public datajacks are unable to print to public printers.
